Hertfordshire Emergency Dentist

24 Hour Emergency Dentist conveniently located for dental emergencies in Hertfordshire. Appointments available on Sundays and Bank Holidays. WE CAN HELP!! We Know That Pain Never Sleeps and that dental emergencies can happen at any time!

Dental emergencies can be serious and can quickly deteriorate. It’s better to be seen sooner rather than later.

Toothaches

These can happen due to a variety of reasons, including loss of dental fillings, dental infection and dental caries. If you are having difficulty managing the pain or are finding that toothache is keeping you awake, you need to see an emergency dentist.

Chipped or broken teeth

Keep hold of any bits that you can, they may be useful! Try to keep the remaining tooth clean and clear of any food.

Knocked-out tooth

Ideally you need to be seen within an hour, but we know this isn’t always possible. The important thing is to avoid any further damage to the tooth. It should not be scrubbed! Keep it in a moist medium like milk or contact lens solution. If you can keep it in your cheek if milk is not available-the aim is to stop it from drying out.

Extruded (partially dislodged) tooth

You need to be seen quickly. Often you will have difficulty or pain on closing your mouth. It should be possible to manipulate and splint the tooth back into the correct position, but the sooner you do this the lower the risk of future complications.

Lost Filling

As a temporary measure you may be able to place an over the counter temporary dental filling. Many pharmacies stock these. Keep the cavity clean in the meantime-rinsing with some corsodyl or clean water will help.

Abscess

Abscesses are infections that occur around the root of a tooth or in the space between the teeth and gums. Dental abscesses are a serious condition that can damage tissue and surrounding teeth, with the infection possibly spreading to other parts of the body if left untreated. See your dentist as soon as possible. If you are experiencing difficulties in breathing you may need to go to A/E

Soft-tissue Injuries

Injuries to the soft tissues, which include the tongue, cheeks, gums, and lips, can result in bleeding. To control the bleeding, here's what to do:

  • Rinse your mouth with a warm salty water or corsodyl mouthwash
  • Use a moistened piece of gauze, a tea bag or tampon to apply pressure to the bleeding site. Hold in place with pressure for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • See the dentist right away. Continue to apply pressure on the bleeding site with the gauze until you can be seen and treated.
